โš ๏ธ 5 Mistakes That Kill Your Prompt

You know the patterns, but AI still outputs garbage? You're likely making one of these 5 mistakes. Each one is found in 90% of beginners.

โŒ Mistake 1: Vague Task

Bad: "help me with my content strategy"

Why it's bad: "help" is a verb without an object. Content strategy for what? For which audience? What are the goals?

Good: "Develop a 30-day content strategy for a B2B SaaS startup in the email marketing niche. The goal is to generate 500 qualified leads via organic search. I have 1 editor and a $0 budget for paid ads. Provide a plan: post topics, publishing frequency, and distribution channels."

๐ŸŽฏ Rule: If you can remove any word from your prompt without losing meaning, it's redundant. If you can add a detail that will change the output, add it.

โŒ Mistake 2: Context Overload

The opposite extreme. You dump the entire company history and a 5-page brief into the AI, and ask it to "do something."

The model gets lost in the flood of information. The more irrelevant details you include, the higher the chance that a key point gets drowned out.

Rule: Only include context that directly affects the output. Not "here is all the info about my company," but "here are 3 facts relevant to this task."

โŒ Mistake 3: Multiple Tasks in One Prompt

Bad: "Analyze competitors, write a launch plan, generate 10 post ideas, and while you're at it, suggest some product features."

The model will do a mediocre job on everything. Each task requires its own focus.

Good: Break it down into 4 separate prompts. Each will get the model's full focus.

๐ŸŽฏ Pro tip: 1 prompt = 1 task. If you want to build a 5-step pipeline, that's 5 prompts. Or, if you want automation, that's an agent (more on this in Lesson 4).

โŒ Mistake 4: Missing Output Format

Without a specified format, the model defaults to an "essay." This is fine for chatting, but bad for practical use.

Bad: "Compare 3 email marketing platforms"

Good: "Compare 3 platforms (Mailchimp, ConvertKit, Beehiiv) in a table. Columns: price for 10K subscribers, automation features, API quality, audience-fit (B2B vs creator vs e-commerce). One-line conclusion: which one is best for each niche."

โŒ Mistake 5: Not Iterating

Most people ask a question โ†’ get an answer โ†’ close the chat. This is the wrong way to do it.

Professional workflow โ€” iterations:

This works because the model uses the context of the ENTIRE previous conversation. Each iteration isn't a "new prompt," but a refinement of the existing one.

๐ŸŽฏ Paradox: People expect AI to "get it perfect on the first try." But even a human expert doesn't get it perfect on the first try. AI works the same way โ€” it requires iterations.

๐ŸŽฌ What's in Lesson 4 โ€” the Finale

๐ŸŽฌ Lesson 4: "When a Prompt Isn't Enough". I'll show you a real-world task that is impossible to solve even with a perfect prompt โ€” and what to do next. This is the most important lesson of the course.
